FI/RE Checklist

A running list of goals I hope to accomplish along the way to FI/RE:

  • Get out of debt
    • Pay off student loans – accomplished in May 2015
    • Sell car – accomplished in October 2016
  • Max out 401kfirst accomplished in 2016
  • Max out IRA – first accomplished in 2016
  • Max out HSA – first accomplished in 2016
  • Save 6 months worth of living expensesaccomplished in 2017
  • Minimize taxes – ongoing:

    2016 11.6%
    2017 ???
  • Maximize savings – ongoing:
    • Save 50% of take home – accomplished for the first time in 2016
    • Save 60% of take home – goal for 2017
    • Save 70% of take home
    • Save 80% of take home
  • Minimize investment costs – ongoing
    • Get it under 0.10%
    • Get it under 0.05% 
  • Grow annual income to 6-figures pre-tax
  • Save down payment for rental property
  • Purchase/manage rental property
  • Develop and take advantage of a sustainable geoarbitrage strategy
  • Get housing costs under 15% of take home – FAILING! Currently at ~26% 😦 
  • Cut down on eating out – ongoing but showing some progress.  That cliff wall in late 2015 was when I discovered FI/RE.

  • Meal plan every week – ongoing and tracking on instagram
  • Cut down on cell charges – calling this a win at $35/month – accomplished in 2016
  • Bike to work 2+ times a week
  • Minimize the financial scourge that is Amazon spending – ongoing (cancelled prime in May 2017)
